Update: Unfortunately Lynn’s Paradise Cafe closed in 2013.
It was as delicious as it sounds! Sweet and salty from the marmalade and cheese combined with a deep, rich woodsy flavor from the mushroom. The fries were crispy and slightly sweet, seasoned with cinnamon.
My friend Michelle, who graciously put up with my food photography, decided on the Popeye Omelet, which is the regular for her, she tells me. It looked wonderful too, stuffed with creamy spinach, bacon and tomatoes.
Lynn’s Paradise Café has such a unique character with fantastic local food options. It is no surprise that it has gotten so much media attention. If you find yourself in Louisville, put it on your list, but make reservations or you might be waiting quite a while for seat!

So much focus is placed on ‘foodie cities’ like NY, SF Hong Kong, Singapore, etc. that gems in other places are given short shrift. Lynn’s Paradise Cafe sounds like a great restaurant – the dishes you and your friend chose look delicious but I’d be perfectly content with a (very large) plate of sweet potato fries!
For me, what comes to mind when I hear Kentucky are mint juleps, seersucker and roses! 8-D
I agree. I like hearing about great food joints in smaller towns. Your first thoughts are good to hear as well. I love mint juleps! Not originally being from here, but living her now, the very first thing I think of regarding food/drink is good ol’ KY bourbon. Otherwise, it’s horses. Fried chicken doesn’t even hit the radar which is why I’m always so surprised when we get that kind of response.
I love that you featured a great Louisville staple! It’s wild how all these big cities get recognized as food meccas but Louisville itself has over 800 local based restaurants and many are just absolute gems! I definitely recommend Varanese next time you’re in town!
I think there are good places to eat everywhere you just have to search them out. We were pleasantly surprised with the things we found on our trip down the Mississippi
Lynn’s Paradise Cafe looks like a charming Kentucky establishment a lot of soul. I always love learning about the unique ingredients, dishes and cultural aspects that can’t be replicated elsewhere.
I love visiting restaurants like this! I can’t imagine traveling and going to chain restaurants!
Well… when I say I’m from Brazil people go: awww football. Or Samba! They think that’s all we have. How about that? Lynn’s Paradise Cafe looks very cute. Don’t like even to think about fried chicken, just by thinking would probably get some blobs on my thighs. 😉
I loved my brief visit to Louisville, so much character, and its places like these that give the place its unique twist. Thanks for showcasing it!
I’ve never been to that area of the country – frankly, Kentucky sounds like an exotic location, a whole other world!
Sounds like a great place to eat. Little local places are the best. That spinach omelette looks delicious.
Having always lived on the coasts (and only recently moved to CO), I am very intrigued by middle and Southern American cuisine. When I lived in San Francisco, upscale soul food was all the rage. One place near my house had organic fried chicken.

Bourbon ball French toast? *swoon*
I LOVE finding those kinds of places when I go traveling (and in my hometown, too)- screw the chain restaurants!
That is my kind of sandwich! Looks great. Glad you had a nice time!
