I have had a very eventful week. There was my trip back to Brazil, a week of eating great food in Curitiba and now we are celebrating my husband’s birthday. Happy Birthday to my best friend!!
I managed to keep up with some reading this week and here are some posts that I enjoyed. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!
The Salty Cod made an outstanding King Cake for Mardi Gras. She incorporated the recipe for a Sour Cream Almond Pound Cake. Yum!
Have Cake, Will Travel gives us another way to incorporate beans into our desserts with her Chickpea Blondies.
Intent.com had a good post about the Top 10 Things to Give Up or Add for Lent. I am Catholic so this is a common practice for me. However, I feel personal sacrifice, as explained in this post, can be beneficial regardless of your spirituality or religion. Giving up things we have come to take for granted can help us to simplify our lives. Devoting time to meditation or prayer can improve our mental wellbeing and reduce stress. If you’ve give up something for Lent or simply to better yourself, I’d love to know. Leave me a comment.
Lesley posted about how to make Greek yogurt. Hooray! So glad she shared it with us. If you haven’t seen it yet, head over there and check it out.
You’ve got two more weeks to enter the Great Peanut Butter Exhibition #5. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Great link to those chickpea blondies!
As far as Lent goes, it’s a while since I’ve given up things specifically for Lent. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t and sometimes I have gone the route of taking up things for Lent instead. I found that taking up something that was positive for me and my wellbeing just helped me to have a more positve outlook on what it was I was doing!
LOVE Lesley’s blog and Celine’s “Have Cake Will Travel” blog (especially her latest post with those blondies, haha).
Happy weekend, Lori!!
I always love your links to a healthy weekend and feel honored to get to be apart of it! Thanks so much for the link : )
(And Happy Birthday to your husband!!)
Great links! We all need more healthy ideas!
I just checked out Lesley’s link for making Greek yogurt – it was awesome! And happy birthday to your husband. Hope you two have a great celebration!
As for Lent, I haven’t ‘given up’ anything in a while; like Spud, I’ve tried instead to change my attitude or my ways of doing things so that they are more positive or beneficial to myself and others. I hope they stick around longer and actually change me for the better. (Although, one year I gave up chocolate and when the Lenten period was over, I found that I didn’t want them as much. I actually broke my chocolate habit!)
Daily Spud – I agree. I typically take up at least one good daily practice and give up one indulgence.
VeggieGirl – I do too. They are both great!
Lesley – Thanks. I was so happy you did that post! 🙂 I will also pass on the wish to my husband.
5 Star Foodie – You are welcome. I try to keep them balanced with food and general wellbeing.
Tangled Noodle –
I know what you mean. I try to make them a long term change even after the season. Giving up eating between meals is a good one for me, really helps me focus on true hunger and usually I keep it up for a little while after Easter. 🙂
