The Beers Knees cocktail is a drink that feels like it was made for me. Gin, honey, lemon, and beer! It’s from Booze & Vinyl, a book that is going to lead to all kinds of fun for upcoming parties.
After the kitchen remodel was finished up last year, it was finally time for my husband to work on getting his home office in order. The first step involved finding a slab of black walnut that he finished as a beautiful table. Second, getting a record player for that table along with some new vinyl.
He’s the music person in the family so I simply get to reap the benefits of the music being played. But we have some other related things in common, our enjoyment of throwing a party with friends, and making and drinking cocktails.
So when I received a review copy of Booze & Vinyl: A Spirited Guide to Great Music and Mixed Drinks by André Darlington and Tenaya Darlington a little while back, as you will see, it was downright perfect.
With a focus on hosting parties, the book highlights artists, albums, and matching cocktails. It’s loaded with classic cocktails, artist’s twists on classics, and plenty of drinks you probably haven’t yet heard of.
The music ranges from Bob Marley and Hank Williams to Madonna and Nirvana. Something for everyone.
Among short stories about the artists and albums and cocktail recipes are recipes for small bites and tips for cocktail making.
It is so fun!
Given my own book, the beer cocktails were first to catch my attention. And there are a few in the book. With things heating up around here, though, this Beers Knees seemed perfect.
It’s a mix of gin, honey syrup, and lemon juice. Then it’s topped off with hefeweizen, a wheat beer which I always associate with summer.
The book officially launched last week. I hope to use it to guide some summer parties with cocktail and music selections, but even without the music, we will be making many of these drinks in the near future. Not to mention that the book is just the kind of reading material you want to park on the coffee table to ignite a bit of lively conversation.
- 1 1/2 ounces gin
- 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 1 ounce honey syrup (1:1 honey to water)
- 3 ounces Hefeweizen
- Lemon wedge, for garnish
- Shake gin, lemon juice, and honey syrup with ice and strain into a collins glass filled with ice. Top with Hefeweizen. Garnish with lemon.
I kept reading that as “Bears’ Knees” 😉
A logical change considering the original speaks to the knees of bees! 🙂
