I’ve been wanting to try this shake for months. I could even show you the little spot in my planner where I jot down recipes. It’s right there, several months back.

I finally got around to making it.

And its as good as I hoped it would be so I’m sharing it with you.

I love dates. We can get them at our farmers market here…because California. I’m pretty sure we can get everything here.

It’s really helped me to explore all the different varieties. Medjool are the most popular. Everyone has heard of the medjool. But my favorite are actually Honey Dates. They are softer and sweeter to me. There is always a bag in the fridge since I have easy access.

Matcha, well, I’ve been meaning to experiment more with it. I bought a bag of it for a bread recipe that will be in my new book Beer Bread (now available for pre-order!) and its been waiting around for me to use it.

I put a range for how much to use in this recipe because it all depends on your matcha tolerance. It can easily get too strong. I love the flavor so I use the full 2 teaspoons. If you are new to it, though, you might want to use one and adjust from there.

The protein powder is optional, but if you use one, make sure it is unsweetened and unflavored. A flavored powder or one with stevia (yuck. sorry, my intense dislike for stevia can get obnoxious) is just going to take away from the natural sweetness of the dates.

Okay, that’s it. Now go make yourself a banana date matcha shake!
